Tassimo Coffee Maker

The Tassimo is very popular single serve coffee maker that also makes other drinks like hot chocolate, tea, latte, espresso and cappuccino.

It does a great job although purists may complain that it's not real espresso or cappucino.

It's number one selling point just like the Senseo and Kuerig coffee machines is convenience. It uses Tassimo Discs, better known as T Discs, disposable discs that contain coffee, tea, or whatever you are making filled disks. They are not reusable or refillable (at least  not easily). The Tassimo makes your beverage hot and fresh quickly in about a minute with no filters or grounds or other mess to deal with. Each T Disc has a special barcode that tells the machine exactly how to brew your beverage.

T Discs are available that contain a number of different brands of coffee, tea, and other drinks, although availability varies by country. The following T Discs are available: Starbucks, Gevalia, Seattles Best, Maxwell House, Mastro Lorenzo, Nabob, Carte Noire, Kenco, Jacobs, Tazo, Suchard, and Twinings. I'll admit I haven't heard of all these before and I know some are European brands not well known in the US. It's interesting that T Discs include Starbucks (I'm typing on my laptop in the Starbucks in Biddeford Maine right now) and Maxwell House. Let's be serious about Maxwell House - although popular, they are not known for making great fresh premium coffee, but OK stuff that comes in cans. T-discs are manufactured by Kraft.

The selection of T-discs is not as wide as K cups (the Keurig) or pods (Senseo and others).

It's an almost instant on machine. Other types of single serve coffee makers often require a minute or two of warm up in comparison. It also allows you to vary the size of the coffee made in comparison to others which have fixed sizes available.

If  you are considering a Tassimo or Keurig, you'll want to read this Tassimo or Keurig Discussion, which includes some people who own both. Opinions run strong, and they are both great machines as is the Senseo.

There are currently three models of Tassimo Coffee makers.

The most popular is the Tassimo TAS4511UC Single Serve Coffee Brewer at about US$170 and the one I recommend. It's extremely well likes as you can easily see if you read the reviews for details.

Tassimo also makes a slightly less expensive version, the TAS1000UC Tassimo Single-Serve Coffee Brewer which doesn't include the water filtration system the more expensive units have, and a slightly more expensive version, the TAS6515UC which is "prettier" and has a larger water reservoir. They make the same tasting beverages. Click Here to see them all.
